Refurbishment of a two-bedroom apartment in Funchal, designed for a young couple, with the aim of reorganising the layout and making the most of the views over the sea and the gardens of the surrounding residential complex.

To enlarge and clarify the living areas, the apartment type was kept but the positions of the second bedroom and the kitchen were swapped. This made it possible to create a kitchen running on from the dining and living rooms, reinforcing a sense of openness and flow and turning the balcony into a natural extension of the interior.

In the private zone, the laundry and plant area gave way to a walk-in wardrobe, enlarging the master suite and improving everyday functionality. The interior language reinterprets the surroundings with contemporary touches while preserving a pared-back retro character, through simple lines and a more sober palette.

Details and materials are central to the identity of the project: bevelled rectangular ceramic tiles in black and white, vintage-inspired sanitaryware and taps, timber panelling with classically profiled mouldings and cornices. Herringbone timber flooring, white marble worktops, a black-and-white hall floor and touches of mirror and brass complete a balanced whole, elegant and timeless.
